School Lunch

We started this project in October 2023 after Jeffrey and I visited Kenya last October. We found out during a visit to this school Ngatmek School (mek are MY INITIALS) that these children walk 1-3 km to school, they are 4-11 years old, have no electricity and dirt floor classrooms and NO LUNCH! So we went to the store and bought Tea & a biscuit for 280 children the next day (see photos). However, La Dignidad Foundation (LDF), a Kenyan foundation (I am the Executive Director) could only continue financing one day a week this small lunch.

2024 has seen LDF continue this one day per week tea and the school has seen an increase enrollment (has the word got out about tea and a biscuit?). We even held a tea for the parents which was well attended. So we have started a campaign to make tea and a biscuit available everyday. This seems a simple task but buying enough tea and biscuits for nearly 400 students and delivery of the food and cooking is a difficult endeavor. No one owns a car and this is a very rural school but we have faith it will become a reality. Also as you think it should be a hot meal!, Yes we are with you, the significant hurdles here include a “real” kitchen with a fire pit , a cook, storage, logistics for food, utensils and bowls is our next large campaign for next year.
